A seat is one paid place on your plan. Three roles use one; two don't.

Pending invitations reserve a seat#
This is the part that can be easy to miss. An invitation sent for a seat-using role reserves that seat from the moment you send it, before the person accepts it. The seat is released when they accept the invitation or when you revoke it.
Where to see the count#
The Seats meter on Administration › Billing shows how many seats you're using, including those reserved by pending invitations. It turns amber with an "over" chip when you're above your paid seat count.
The summary strip on Administration › Users shows the same information broken down by paid, free, and deactivated users.
Deactivated and deleted users don't count toward your seats. Their seats are released as soon as they're deactivated.
Buying a seat#
You don't need to pre-purchase seats. When an action requires a seat you don't have, OurOpero asks you to purchase one at your current plan's rate, inviting someone, changing their role to a paid role, and reactivating a user all use the same dialog.
- The charge is prorated for the days remaining in the current billing cycle, then the seat renews at the normal rate.
- During a trial, nothing is charged immediately, the seats start billing when the trial ends.
- The purchase covers your entire shortfall, including seats reserved by pending invitations.
