Opening a document gives you three main areas: the document bar with the title and controls, the formatting toolbar, and the page where you enter content.
The Document Bar#
| Control | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Add icon / Change icon | Adds an emoji beside the title. The picker includes a search box and the full emoji set. |
| Saving… / Saved | Shows the autosave status. See "Renaming and Autosave". |
| Help icon | Opens "Keyboard shortcuts". The Block Types section describes intended shortcuts; the shortcuts listed below are the ones that work. |
| History icon | Opens "Version history". The badge shows the number of versions saved so far. |
| Share | Copies a link to the document. See "Sharing a Document". |
A metadata row below the title shows who created the document, when it was created, and when it was last updated.
The Page#
- An empty document shows "Press '/' for commands or start typing…".
- Every empty paragraph shows "Type '/' for commands…".
- Hover over a block to reveal a drag handle on the left. The handle shows "Drag to move" and lets you reorder the block.
- Drag files from your computer onto the page to insert them as media.
