How views remember their layout

Each view keeps its own column order, widths, and hidden columns. Main Table is the exception because changes there update the board's actual layout.

Understanding how view layouts work is important before rearranging columns. Two views of the same board can have different layouts depending on which view you are using.

What a View Stores#

Every view except Main Table keeps its own layout overlay on top of the board:

  • Column order: The order of the columns after you rearrange them.
  • Column widths: The width set for each column.
  • Hidden columns: The columns you have hidden from the Hide panel.

Because each view has its own layout overlay, reordering or resizing columns in one view does not affect other views. For example, a narrow "Weekly standup" view and a wide "Everything" view can have completely different layouts while showing the same board.

Resizing a Column#

Drag the handle on the right edge of a column header. The handle turns blue when you hover over it. Columns can be between 60px and 600px wide.

The new width is saved when you release the handle, not while you are dragging it.
