Notifications and emails

Use "Notify Someone" and "Send Email" to send messages from an automation using the same message editor.

Two Item actions send messages instead of changing the board. "Notify Someone" posts an in-app notification, while "Send Email" sends an email. Both use the same editor in a popover headed "Create a notification" or "Create an email".

The Two Fields#

ActionFirst FieldSecond Field
Notify SomeoneTitle: optional, placeholder "Add text"Notification: required, placeholder "Add text or {variable}"
Send EmailSubject: optional, placeholder "Add text"Body: required, placeholder "Add text or {variable}"

Choosing Recipients#

Select the recipient's token to open "Select recipients". You can choose multiple recipients, and each selected recipient appears as a chip that you can remove.

Available options include:

  • Me: the person who owns the automation.
  • Subscribers: everyone subscribed to the item.
  • A people column: expand it to send to the people assigned in that column on the item.
  • Suggested: board members, or anyone you find using "Search for people or teams".

Writing the Message#

Both fields support plain text with variables. This lets an automation include details such as the item, board, or person who triggered it.

Select "+ Use values from trigger" below the field to insert a variable. See "Recipients and Variables" for the complete list.
