Headings and lists

Structuring a page with six heading levels, three list types, toggles, and quotes.

Headings#

Headings feed the Table of contents block, so keep them in a logical order.

The slash menu and the Insert (+) menu offer Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3. All six heading levels are also available through the Turn into menu on the selection toolbar or the shortcuts ⌘/Ctrl+Alt+1 through ⌘/Ctrl+Alt+6.

Headings are used by the Table of contents block, so use them in a logical order rather than choosing a heading based only on its size.

Lists#

ListWhat It's For
Bulleted listUnordered points. The toolbar button's caret offers bullet styles.
Numbered listOrdered steps. The caret offers numbering styles.
To-do listCheckboxes that you can tick directly.

Press Enter to create the next item and press Enter again on an empty item to leave the list. Tab indents an item by one level, while Shift+Tab moves it back out. The Outdent and Indent buttons on the toolbar provide the same controls.

Toggles and Quotes#

  • Toggle: a collapsible heading with content folded inside it. Choose the triangle to open or close it.
  • Blockquote: an indented quotation used to highlight something written or said by someone else.
