Restricting a column

Two restrictions per column: who can edit it, and who can see it at all.

Set two types of restrictions for a column: who can edit it and who can see it.

Board access applies to the entire board, but individual columns can have additional restrictions. This is useful for sensitive information such as a salary column, an internal note, or a field that only a specific team should manage.

Restricting Who Can Edit#

  • Open the column's ⋯ menu.
  • Select "Restrict column editing".
  • Under "Choose who can edit this column", find people using the "Enter a person's name" box.
  • Selected people appear as chips that you can remove. Select "Save" when the list is complete.

Once an edit restriction is set, the menu entry changes to "Edit permission settings". To remove the restriction, select "Remove edit restriction".

Restricting Who Can See#

"Restrict column view" works in the same way from the column's ⋯ menu. Under "Choose who can view this column", select the people who should have access.

People outside the selected list cannot see the column at all.

Spotting a Restricted Column#

Restricted columns display a marker in their header:

  • A padlock indicates an edit restriction.
  • A crossed-out eye indicates a view restriction.

These markers are visible to everyone who can see the column, including people who do not have access to the column menu.
