Building your first recipe
Create an automation as a sentence with one trigger, optional conditions, and one or more actions.
4 min readUpdated
An automation is built as a sentence that reads from left to right: when something happens, and only if certain conditions are met, then perform one or more actions.
- Open the board and select "Automate".
- Select "Create automation". The builder opens with an empty sentence.
- Select "When this happens" and choose a trigger from the picker.
- Configure the trigger by filling in the required tokens, such as a column, group, or schedule.
- Optionally select "Add condition" to control when the automation runs.
- Select "Then do this" and choose an action, then configure its required tokens.
- Select "Add action" to add more actions if needed.
- Select "Create automation" to save the automation.
The Three Parts#
| Part | How Many | Empty Prompt |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Exactly one, and required | When this happens |
| Conditions | None, one, or several, all optional | and only if… |
| Actions | One or more, executed in the order listed | Then do this |
"Add condition" appears to the right of the trigger and below each condition you add. "Add action" appears below the last action.
Naming#
There is no name field. OurOpero generates the automation name from what you build, using the trigger and actions. For example: "When status changes to something → Notify Someone + Change Status".
If the automation does not contain anything recognisable for naming, it uses "Untitled Automation".
Saving#
The save button shows "Create automation" when creating a new automation and "Update automation" when editing an existing one. While saving, it displays "Saving…".
If saving fails, you see "Failed to save automation. Please check your configuration." This indicates a network or server problem rather than a validation error.
