Duration and time tracking

The Duration column runs a timer for each item and keeps a log of every session that contributes to the total.

4 min readUpdated

A Duration column works like a stopwatch for each item. The cell shows the running total, such as "1h 2m 3s" or "2m 3s" for shorter durations, with a play button beside it.

Timing Something#

  • Select the play button in the cell to start the timer. Its tooltip reads "Start timer".
  • The total updates every second while the timer is running.
  • Select the same button, now labelled "Pause timer", to stop the timer.

The Time Tracking Log#

Select the duration value to open the Time Tracking Log. It shows every session that contributes to the total, including the person who started it, the date, start and end times, and duration.

  • A running timer appears at the top as a green "Currently active session" banner with a live counter.
  • Select "+ Add session manually" to open a date and time entry panel with a live duration preview, then select "Add session".
  • Select a session row to edit it. The trash button deletes the session.
  • Select "Clear" to remove the entire log after the "Clear all?" confirmation.
  • Select "Export to Excel" to download the sessions with Date, Start Time, End Time, Duration, Started By, and Manually Entered columns.

Elsewhere in the Product#

Automations can start and stop tracking on a Duration column, and the group summary strip shows the column's total as a Sum chip. Duration columns cannot be used in filters.

Viewers and guests can see the total but do not have a play button, and the duration is not clickable for them.
